Hybrid parents: Daphne cneorum x Daphne arbuscula
about 20 cm high and more than 0,5 m in diameter / hardy / evergreen / scented / carpet like growth / sunny place
first cross was made 1973 by Severin Schlyter (Sweden) with Daphne cneorum ‘Leila Haines’ and Daphne arbuscula, the cultivar was named ‘Lovisa Maria’ / ‘Pink Panther’ is a spontaneous cross with the same parentage that took place in the garden of Dr. Cyril Lafong
Hans Bauer (Germany) made also this cross and gave a seedling to Mr. Holzbecher who propagated and named the cultivar ‘Hans Bauer’, the special characteristic of this cultivar is the cristate growth similar to the platyclada form of Daphne arbuscula forma platyclada, but this Daphne x schlyteri hybrid is not stabile and changes always from normal to cristate growth - the same does Daphne x schlyteri ‘Anita Selma’ / nice pink flowers has Daphne x schlyteri ‘July Glow’ / Daphne x schlyteri ‘Leon Doyen’ (breeder Dirk M. Jockel) is a hybrid with a darker and more intense flower colour than the above mentioned cultivars.
